Welcome to the Indie Chicks show! I’m your host, Melissa Koberlein. I’m an author and professor of publishing. If you’re just tuning in for the first time, let me tell you about the show. Indie Chicks celebrates and supports independent women in publishing. We’re a place for writers at all stages of the publishing process. So, whether you’re on the traditional route to publication or self-publishing, you’ve come to the right place for advice. And now I have a new permanent co-host, Jeni Chappelle.
Jeni is a freelance novel editor with ten years’ experience, co-founding editor and board member for Revise & Resub (#RevPit), and EFA and SCBWI member. She considers herself a hobbit (minus the big, hairy feet) and lives in a tiny town near Charlotte, NC with her family and way too many pets.
This week we discuss self-editing for authors: what is it and what it isn't, how to get started self-editing, how you know when you've done enough, and what to do when you're done.
AND....here is our Tip of the Week: The best way to get better at editing your own writing is to help other authors edit their writing. Find some critique partners and give them feedback too. A lot of authors tell me they don’t know what to say. Jami Gold has a great beta reading questionnaire on her website, https://jamigold.com/for-writers/worksheets-for-writers/
On our next podcast, we will have Megan Manzano, freelance editor, writer, associate marketing manager, Pitchwars 2018 mentor, and now Literary Agent Apprentice at Corvisiero Lit, for a discussion about query letters and first pages. We will also have another Tip of the Week.
